Effective 1 Aug 2010 Elliott Technologies becomes ETEC Crop Solutions.
Since its inception 21 years ago the company has endeavoured to source and supply innovative crop protection products to solve problems for NZ growers.
As a wholly NZ owned company ETEC has invested heavily in local R&D to ensure products were well suited to NZ conditions. Being technically sound has always been a prerequisite for any product in the range - helping NZ growers get more effective control of Weeds, Pests and Disease or saving time and money on application costs is a key driver of the business. ETEC has a very experienced team and key partnerships with suppliers and retailers. ETEC is well placed to supply specialty products into a demanding and rapidly changing market including low/no residue crops grown under sustainable practices.

Etec Crop Solutions: Innovative products for New Zealand Agriculture
Etec Crop Solutions is an independent privately owned product development and marketing company with a proven record of successful product introductions into NZ Agricultural Crop protection, particularly into Horticultural and Speciality Markets.
Etec (formerly known as Elliott Technologies and Elliott Chemicals Limited) was born from the need to find the right products to solve grower problems in the key Horticultural production regions. The Company set out to establish contact with potential suppliers of product, both locally and internationally, to meet NZ market needs.
This activity has gone far beyond the original concept of developing products solely for the horticulture to the situation today where the company is involved with product development and marketing across the whole spectrum of the pastoral, horticultural, arable, pest control, turf and forestry markets.
Ownership
The original company founded in 1988 by Garry Elliott and Rod Ketels. The current shareholder/owners of Etec include the founders plus John Read, Brian Smith and Glenn Peach.
Technical competence
The company is strong technically across most crop sectors in the Horticultural market and has a rapidly growing presence in arable sectors. Horticulture includes crop solutions in Pip and Stone fruit, Citrus, Grapes, Kiwifruit, Avocados, Onions, Potatoes, Brassicas, Pasture, Squash, Green Vegetables and Process field crops and the whole range of Market Garden crops. Etec also services the forestry, pest control, turf, and aquatic weed control industries with a range of products.
Etec has a substantial ongoing research investment, committing a significant percentage of turnover to research. This commitment offers Principals the opportunity to not only expedite registrations for new products but also extend label claims to other crops and uses, to maximise sales in the NZ market.
Etec is very experienced in product positioning in the crowded New Zealand market. The Company draws on its extensive international network of technical and commercial contacts to help this process. Relationships with local universities, Crown Research Institutes and international manufacturers are strong, ensuring the company makes product selection and investment that is compatible with market trends such as "100% Pure", "Kiwi Green" and "Integrated Fruit Production programmes".
Etec has a strong focus on sustainable agriculture, belongs to the AgRecovery® plastic packaging recycling programme and has a number of products Biogro® approved for Organic use.
Commercial capability
Working independently and without conflict of interest, Etec can take responsibility for the selection of distribution most suited to maximising the objectives for the individual products. This selection takes into account the technical stewardship required for the product, to ensure its correct use in practice. This is most important given the technical nature of many market segments.
The company is well known for its innovative marketing, loyalty and commercial persistence, achieving research targets and getting products to market in a timely manner.
Etec seeks to sell products which significantly add to growers' crop yields and returns.
Products taken to market
Since 1989 the company has successfully taken a large number of products to market. The current range is in excess of 70 products.
Other products
In addition to the products already on the market, Etec is also at various stages of development with a number of other products from international research-based companies.
The Company is clearly very active in the sourcing, researching and marketing of products with potential for the horticultural and agricultural crop protection markets in NZ. The Company takes an innovative approach to product development alongside its principals and in some instances this has lead to international product development leads. The Company works on a confidential and formal basis with most of its principals and frequently has samples to hand early in the life cycle of new products.
Etec is always interested in following up well established overseas products in addition to new technology. What may appear at first sight to be a minor market, can in fact prove to be invaluable for growers and profitable to all parties when research is focused and products are taken into niche markets.
